Our primary school: fun while learning

Our bilingual primary school offers children an ideal environment for an enjoyable and relaxed learning experience, helping them to become self-confident, responsible, creative and committed personalities. We attach great importance to respectful behaviour based on clear rules. Our experienced native-speaking teachers support the children individually, awaken the joy of learning in them and encourage them to give their best. Small classes allow us to focus on individual requirements.

Authentic bilingualism

Lessons are in German for one half of the week and in English for the other. The two class teachers work closely together to ensure smooth transitions in the teaching process. Music, crafts and sport are taught by specialists. French is commenced as a second foreign language in year 3.

We welcome new students warmly. Our language booster lessons entail additional support in the second language to help newcomers commence at our school. Diverse recreational activities create a sense of community among the students. Extracurricular supervision in conjunction with optional homework support helps parents to organise their work and family life efficiently.

Further schooling options

Lessons are based on Curriculum 21 (Lehrplan 21) as well as on the Cambridge International Curriculum and we are also recognised by the Cantons Basel-Stadt and Zurich. This makes it is possible to switch to a state-run secondary or senior school in Switzerland or abroad.

In Basel, our students transfer to the Academia International School’s bilingual secondary school after completing year 6 without having to take exams. In Winterthur, students have the option of attending the in-house bilingual secondary school or transferring to the Academia International School’s secondary school in Zurich also without having to take exams.

The Academia International School’s secondary school combines bilingual and project-based teaching in a unique way and prepares students for English-language colleges as well as for secondary schools and vocational training in Switzerland or abroad.
