From pre-kindergarten to secondary school
Classes at Aacademia Bilingual School Winterthur are colourful and diverse; our students come from many different nations. In recent years, more and more monolingual families have chosen bilingual education for their children.
Academic success
Our dedication to smaller classes compliments our commitment to differentiation and individual differences. Internal assessments support targeted learning against both international and national standards. After secondary school students can enter our English-speaking college without exam. We also prepare your child for the entrance exam to the Gymnasium (public junior high school after year 6 or high school after year 8), another secondary school or an apprenticeship.
Our teachers
Our teaching team brings a great mix of experience, passion and commitment to our school. The close cooperation between class teachers and specialized subject teachers is important for a great learning experience. Our teachers come from Switzerland, Germany, France, Great Britain, the United States, New Zealand, Ireland and Australia.
Our students
We are a small school by design to meet the needs of the individual in a familiar learning community. Our students have normal or above-average aptitude. They have good learning habits and strong social skills. Admission is based on an interview, student recommendation from the current school, past report card, an entrance assessment and trial days where possible.
We welcome new students warmly. Our language booster lessons entail additional support in the second language to help newcomers commence at our school.
Our school day
At our day school we offer a comprehensive before and after school programme from 7.15 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
In our bilingual Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten we accept children from age 3. The Kindergarten day starts at 8:30 a.m. and finishes at 2:45 p.m and Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. including lunch. Lessons at our Primary School are from 8:30 a.m. to 2.45 p.m.. Lessons at our Secondary School are generally from 8.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday to 12:00 p.m..
An after-school programme is available until 6.30 p.m. within the scope of our before- and after-school programme (subject to payment) for all children and youngsters wishing to stay longer.
Connection to Swiss state schools
Our teaching is based on Curriculum 21 (Lehrplan 21) and the Cambridge International Curriculum; this safeguards the option to continue at a state-run school or further education institution in Switzerland as well as abroad.
For many families, a bilingual education is a soft landing into Swiss life and education. Students achieving at our school are typically successful should they venture into other educational systems throughout their schooling. Our school is recognised by the Canton of Zurich. This safeguards the option to continue at a state-run school or further education institution in Switzerland as well as abroad
Continued schooling options
Those who complete their secondary schooling with us have attractive connection options. Our English-speaking college Academia International School prepares students for the International A Levels without an entrance examination. Academia International School Winterthur will be located in the same building on the WIN4-Campus, starting in August 2023.
Students passionate for music, sport or dance can transfer to the Swiss Academy Zürich after year 8, where they can combine their passion with an internationally recognised upper secondary education.
Alternatively, we also prepare our students for transfer to public high school or other upper secondary schools.
